About Us

“Baurau” (BAH-RUE) means to create something unique and special out of existing materials. Our logo contains two simple marks representing what we hope to provide:
STRENGTH
SELF-RELIANCE

The Reason Why

"In 2012, our family began the beautiful journey of adopting our daughter from Ethiopia. We were instantly captivated by her, and after two years, she officially became a part of our family. Her name, meaning "Freedom" in Oromo, holds deep significance for us.

A few years later, we felt a strong calling to adopt again—this time, from Liberia. Much like our first adoption, we fell in love with our second daughter, whose name in Kpele means "New Thing."

Through these journeys, we developed a deep love for Africa and its people. The names of our daughters embody the vision for Baurau: to bring new opportunities and freedoms to the communities we serve, giving people the chance to build better lives for themselves and their families."

- Brian and Becky NeVille (Founders)

The People Behind the Mission

Our U.S. team works with African leadership, merging global expertise with local insight.

FAQ: Understanding Our Mission

Common questions to help you better understand how we work and why it matters.

Baurau is a for-profit venture where 100% of revenue & profits are reinvested back into the countries we work in. Unlike traditional aid models, we build profitable, job-creating businesses—not short-term projects—and we never extract wealth from the countries we serve.

We've seen firsthand how short-term aid often fails to create lasting change. By building scalable, self-sustaining businesses that stay in-country, we create a cycle of growth that benefits communities for generations.

We are self-funded and committed to financial independence. Because we don’t rely on outside investors or grants, we keep complete control, ensuring every dollar stays local to fuel long-term growth.

We focus on identifying high-potential businesses and infrastructure projects, such as food and agriculture production. We collaborate with local leaders to discover opportunities, invest in promising ventures, and work directly with teams on the ground to execute and grow these enterprises.

We believe independence protects our mission. Outside investors often expect financial returns or other benefits that drain resources from the countries we serve. Our model reinvests everything into the local economy—no exceptions.
